Your Journey with Rad-Vasc Medical

What exactly is Interventional Radiology (IR)?

Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that uses advanced imaging (like X-rays or ultrasounds) to guide tiny instruments, such as catheters, through your blood vessels. This allows our doctors to treat complex conditions right at the source without the need for open surgery.

How are your treatments different from traditional surgery?

Unlike traditional open surgery, our minimally invasive procedures require no large incisions, no stitches, and typically no general anesthesia. This results in significantly less pain, a lower risk of complications, and a much faster recovery time.

Are these procedures performed in a hospital?

No, you do not need to go to a hospital. All of our advanced treatments are performed in our comfortable, state-of-the-art outpatient clinics located in Brooklyn and Queens. You get to go home the exact same day.

Does health insurance cover minimally invasive treatments?

Yes. Conditions like Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Uterine Fibroids, BPH, and symptomatic Varicose Veins are recognized medical issues. Most major insurance plans, including Medicare, cover these image-guided treatments. Our team will help verify your benefits before your procedure.

Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor to see Dr. Boktor?

In many cases, you can schedule a consultation with us directly without a referral. However, some specific insurance HMO plans do require one. When you call to book your appointment, our front desk will check your specific plan and guide you through the process.

Will the procedure be painful?

Patient comfort is our top priority. We typically use local anesthesia to numb the pinpoint entry site, often combined with mild sedation (twilight sleep) to keep you relaxed. Most patients report feeling only mild pressure, not pain, during the treatment.

How long is the recovery time?

Because we don't make surgical incisions, recovery is incredibly fast. Most patients walk out of our clinic on their own and can return to their normal daily activities or work within a few days, compared to the weeks or months required after traditional surgery.

What conditions do you treat at Rad-Vasc Medical?

We specialize in treating blood flow-related issues without surgery. Our primary services include treatments for Chronic Knee Pain (Osteoarthritis), Enlarged Prostate (BPH), Uterine Fibroids, Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Chronic Hemorrhoids, and Varicose Veins.

I’ve been told I need surgery for my condition. Can I get a second opinion here?

Absolutely. Many patients come to us looking for alternatives to knee replacements, hysterectomies, or prostate surgeries. If you want to explore non-surgical options that preserve your organs and reduce recovery time, scheduling a consultation with us is the perfect next step.

How quickly can I get an appointment, and what should I bring?

We strive to see new patients as quickly as possible, often within the same week. When you come in for your initial consultation, please bring your photo ID, your insurance card, and any recent medical imaging (like ultrasounds or MRIs) related to your condition.
